It is clear throughout scripture and the Christian experience that being a Christian comes with the call, privilege, and responsibility of service to Christ and his community. At the Church of the Holy Trinity, there are many opportunities to be involved with service, both within the church community and in the wider world.
St. Teresa of Avila, a mystic who lived in Spain 500 years ago, once wrote a poem about the importance of giving our life for Christ to each other and the world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours,
No hands but yours, no feet but yours,
Yours are the eyes through which is to look out
Christ’s compassion to the world;
Yours are the feet with which he is to go about doing good;
Yours are the hands with which he is to bless all the world.
How is God calling each of us to be Christ’s hands and feet in the world right now?
Scripture (Matthew 25:37-40) Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family” you did it to me.”
